Overall Winner

Hemphill Elementary School
Birmingham City Schools
Title: Dangers of the Group Chat

The “Dangers of the Group Chat” video showcased the power of student voice in addressing real issues like gossip, exclusion, and peer pressure. Created by Peer Helpers, the video resonated with students by offering relatable scenarios and promoting positive choices such as respectful communication, standing up for others, and knowing when to disengage.

The initiative led to a more positive school climate, with increased empathy, accountability, and a noticeable decrease in group chat-related conflicts. Peer Helpers reinforced the message through daily interactions, encouraging peers to “pause before you post” and seek help when needed.

In addition, Peer Helpers supported attendance efforts through the Bison Besties program, building relationships with younger students and promoting consistent school attendance. Their involvement helped increase engagement, improve attendance, and foster a more connected, supportive school environment.

Overall, this student-led initiative created meaningful, lasting change by empowering students to lead with kindness, responsibility, and respect.
